LAHORE MIRROR — US Senator Chris Van Hollen made it clear on Sunday that the Biden administration has no intentions of meddling in Pakistan’s internal politics and strongly denied any allegations of political interference.

Speaking to Pakistani journalists at the annual meeting and gala dinner of the DC, Maryland, Virginia (DMV) chapter of the Association of Pakistani Physicians of North America, Senator Hollen assured that there have been no efforts by the Biden administration to manipulate any aspects of Pakistani politics.

This statement comes amidst an investigation involving Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan, who claimed to possess diplomatic evidence suggesting US involvement in his removal from power in April of the previous year through a no-confidence vote.

Senator Hollen, who was the guest of honor at the event, was joined by Pakistan’s Ambassador to the US, Masood Khan. The occasion provided an opportunity for the American politician to address important issues related to US-Pakistan relations and the role of the Biden administration in Pakistani politics.

He emphasized that the choice of Pakistan’s leaders should be determined solely by the Pakistani people and stressed the importance of ensuring that their will is respected, advocating for free and fair elections.

Highlighting the global significance of transparent elections, Senator Hollen stated, “The US, along with other democracies, and the people of Pakistan share an interest in ensuring that elections are conducted freely and fairly.”

Regarding bilateral relations between the two nations, the senator reaffirmed the Biden administration’s desire for a strong partnership with Pakistan. He mentioned recent US assistance provided to Pakistan in the aftermath of devastating floods as an example of the US government’s commitment to the nation during times of crisis.

Senator Hollen also commended the US’s role in assisting Pakistan in securing a $3 billion bailout package from the International Monetary Fund (IMF).

He underscored the importance of maintaining positive relations with Pakistan, emphasizing that such relations are vital for global stability and security.
