LAHORE MIRROR — In celebration of the 10th anniversary of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), the federal government has announced its intention to issue a commemorative coin with a face value of Rs100.
Starting from August 11, 2023, the coin will be made available through the exchange counters of SBP Banking Services Corporation. The coin, fashioned in a round shape with distinctive serrations on the edge, boasts a diameter of 30 mm and a weight of 13.5 grams. Crafted from Cupro-Nickel alloy, it consists of 75 percent copper and 25 percent nickel, ensuring a lasting quality.
On the obverse side, a captivatingly designed five-pointed star takes center stage. Positioned within this star are the crescent moon and star from Pakistan’s national flag, as well as a cluster of five stars from China’s flag, adorning the right and left areas of the star, respectively. The phrase ‘CELEBRATING 10 YEARS OF CPEC’ is elegantly inscribed in English script at the top, while ‘ISLAMI JAMHURIA PAKISTAN’ graces the bottom in Urdu script, both following the coin’s periphery.
These phrases are adorned by a pair of stars on each side. Additionally, the coin boldly displays its denomination in English numerals ‘100’ and in Urdu script ‘Rupiya,’ situated on the right and left sides of the star, correspondingly.
Flipping the coin reveals its reverse side, which mirrors the artistic five-pointed star featured on the obverse. Within this star, the crescent moon and star emblem of Pakistan and the cluster of five stars from China’s flag make another appearance on the right and left sections of the star.
At the star’s apex, the inscription ‘CHINA PAKISTAN ECONOMIC CORRIDOR’ is meticulously rendered in both English and Chinese scripts, encircling the star. Below, in harmony with the coin’s periphery, the words ‘PAKISTAN CHEEN EQTESADI RAHDARI’ are elegantly etched in Urdu script, accompanied by ‘FROM VISION TO REALITY’ in English script.
Maintaining symmetry, two stars flank each set of inscriptions at the top and bottom. Engraved in the heart of the coin, the years ‘2013’ and ‘2023’ stand as a testament to a decade of remarkable CPEC development, symbolizing progress and prosperity.
From its unique design to its commemorative significance, the CPEC anniversary coin encapsulates the enduring partnership and accomplishments between China and Pakistan.
