Former VC was offloaded to investigate Bahawalpur University scandal

LAHORE MIRROR – The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) on Thursday stopped the former vice chancellor of Islamia University Bahawalpur (IUB) Dr. Athar Mahboob from travelling abroad.

According to Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) sources, FIA Immigration Karachi stopped Dr Athar Mehboob from going to America. FIA sources say that the former VC tried to go to America from Karachi airport two days ago.

Sources say that the former vice-chancellor was offloaded to investigate the Bahawalpur University scandal, the senior officers of FIA instructed to prevent the former vice-chancellor from going out of the country.

Dr. Athar Mahboob has retired on July 25 2023 as Vice Chancellor of Bahawalpur Islamia University.

Earlier, an inquiry has been initiated against Dr Athar Mahboob, the former vice chancellor of the Islamia University Bahawalpur (IUB), regarding allegations of financial corruption and administrative irregularities at the Varsity.

The investigation comes in the wake of a scandal that has surfaced at the university, prompting authorities to scrutinize the actions of Dr Athar Mahboob during his tenure.

The Department of Higher Education South Punjab issued a notification for the inquiry, leading to changes in the Inquiry Committee’s terms of reference.

The investigation was prompted by the emergence of a scandal involving immoral pictures and drug use of female students at Islamia University Bahawalpur.

As a result, Dr. Athar Mahboob came under scrutiny, and a fact-finding committee was formed, headed by Dr. Muhammad Ali, the Vice Chancellor of Bahauddin Zakariya University Multan.

Furthermore, the committee is currently delving into all aspects of the university scandals, including the involvement of the university’s chief security officer, who is currently in jail due to a drug bust.

Punjab CM Forms 3-Member Inquiry Committee To Probe IUB Scam

In response to an alleged incident involving the recovery of drugs, obscene videos from CSO, IUB from his mobile phones, Chief Minister Punjab, Mohsin Naqvi, has taken prompt action by constituting a three-member inquiry committee.

The committee, comprising Secretary Minerals Babar Aman Babar, DIG Amin Bukhari, and DIG Raja Faisal, would conduct a comprehensive investigation into all aspects of the matter.

The committee’s findings will be presented to CM Punjab for further action.

Bahawalpur Regional Police Officer (RPO) also formed five-member committee to probe the matter. The Bahawalpur DPO also talked to media and made stunning disclosures.

The Chief Security Officer also disclosed several names of senior most faculty members who are allegedly involved in sexual harassment and narcotics use.

The DPO said more than 113 female students are history-sheeters in dealing narcotics.
