Torrential Rains Cause Neelum Flooding, Sutlej and Chenab Rising
LAHORE MIRROR – Heavy monsoon rains are causing water levels to rise in Sutlej and Chenab rivers, while flooding in Neelum River has wreaked havoc in the region.
According to the reports, Neelum River flooding in Kashmir has led to severe damage, disconnecting villages. River Chitral and its tributaries in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa are also overflowing, causing destruction to homes and businesses.
Similar reports of smaller streams and rivers being affected by monsoon currents are coming from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Kashmir. The situation may worsen as more heavy rains are predicted in the coming days, leading to flash and river flooding in tributaries of major rivers like Indus, Chenab, and Jhelum.

Despite the increase in water level due to persistent rains, major rivers are currently normal according to the National Disaster Management Authority’s latest tweet.
The water level in Sutlej at Ganda Singh Wala, near the Pak-India border, has risen by 20 feet, inundating settlements recently affected by the overflowing river. The downstream areas south of Ganda Singh Wala are experiencing rising water levels as well.
In Kashmir, the rains are also causing the water level of Chenab River to rise, leading to the relocation of people from low-lying areas along the river path.
