Huge Quantity of Silt Lifted From Rainwater Drains To Landfill Sites: Najam Shah

KARACHI– Minister for Local Government Syed Nasir Hussain Shah and Secretary Local Government Syed Najam Ahmad Shah visited different areas of the city on Tuesday and inspected the drain cleaning campaign.
Briefing the Sindh Local Government Minister on the occasion, Local Government Secretary Syed Najam Ahmad Shah said that the drain cleaning campaign which started on May 26 is in full swing and the waste is being discharged from the stormwater drains on a daily basis.
Najam Ahmad Shah informed the Sindh Local Government Minister that according to the data received till June 19, 3796790 cubic feet of silt has been transferred from rainwater drains through 5396 dumpers to landfill sites and the process is still ongoing.
Appreciating the performance of the Sindh Local Government Secretary and the committee formed for the drains cleaning campaign, the Sindh Local Government Minister said that the positive results of the measures taken by the Sindh Government are now clearly visible and the people of the province, especially Karachi, will not have to suffer in this rainy season.
According to the Sindh Local Government Minister, the Sindh government wants to benefit the people of Sindh and every possible step will be taken for the betterment of common men.
Talking to the Special Correspondent, Local Government Secretary Syed Najam Ahmad Shah said that the process of cleaning stormwater drains would continue throughout the monsoon season in order to achieve lasting results.
Najam Shah appealed to the people to extend their cooperation with local government staff during the drains cleaning campaign and refrain from dumping garbage other than the allotted places. During the visit, various points including PIDC Nala, II Chandragar Nala, Soldier Bazar Nala, Zehri House Nala, Gulistan Zafar Nala were visited.
