LAHORE– The Government College University (GCU) Lahore has successfully completed Phase-I of the construction in its 400 acres New Campus at the Kala Shah Kaku with a cost of Rs. 997.608 million.
In the first phase, one academic block for 1200 students, a boys hostel with a capacity of 300 students, administrative block, residential apartments for staff and other facilities including road infrastructure have been constructed besides sewerage and roads infrastructure.
GCU Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Asghar Zaidi said academic activities already started on the University’s new campus; and students from the university’s eight departments, including BA/BSc (Hons) Physical Education, Botany Zoology, Chemistry, Biotechnology, Psychology and Fine Arts had been attending their classes in the Academic Block of new campus.
He said that with the completion of Phase-I of new campus, about 2,000 students would study on this campus from the upcoming academic year i.e. September 2021. He also said GCU is anticipating funds from the Federal government for the Phase-II of construction of the New Campus.
He said that the Phase-II was very crucial for smooth functioning of this campus as it involves completion of admin bock, external development works related to road network and water supplies and provision of on-campus residence to staff and operational transportation facilities.
Prof. Zaidi said the second phase also included three-floor academic block and a hostel.
Prof. Zaidi said these days GCU botanists and engineers were working tirelessly for beautification to transform 400 acres land into a lush green campus.
The Vice Chancellor hoped that by September 2021, the Faculty of Life Sciences would be fully operational at the New Campus”.— PRESS RELEASE
