Establishment of Sanitation Structure Of Karachi On Scientific Basis Planned

KARACHI– Secretary Local Government, Housing and Town Planning Sindh Syed Najam Ahmad Shah presided over the most important meeting regarding permanent disposal of garbage and disposal of garbage on a scientific basis in which MD Solid Waste Zubair Channa was also present.
Secretary Local Government Sindh Najam Ahmad Shah was informed that a strategy is being formulated to make the city clean on a permanent basis and cleaning activities are underway under the Solid Waste Management Board which includes door to door garbage collection, Introducing Moving Garbage Vehicles, and Awareness Campaign which will be accomplished with the advice of experts.
Addressing the meeting, Sindh Local Government Secretary Syed Najam Ahmad Shah said that with the growing population of Karachi, the production of household waste and other types of garbage on a daily basis is also increasing which needs to be addressed on an emergency basis. Najam Ahmad Shah said that the Solid Waste Management Board under the Sindh Local Government Department has an important role to play in cleaning up Karachi which will become more significant in the near future.
Instructing the MD Solid Waste, the Secretary Local Government Sindh said that a comprehensive strategy should be formulated to collect garbage from all the houses on a daily basis in all the areas where cleaning activities are being carried out under the Solid Waste Management Board. He instructed that all field and ground staff shall perform their duties following full SOPs, uninterrupted collection of garbage from garbage transfer stations and complete data and record-keeping should be done after ensuring safe transfer of garbage to the landfill site.
MD, Solid Waste Zubair Channa while briefing the Secretary Local Government Sindh regarding the future preparations, said that selection of all contractors is being carried out under full merit and transparency and establishment of monitoring units at the level of each district will be implemented.
Secretary Local Government Syed Najam Ahmad Shah while issuing special orders said that all the district officers of the Solid Waste Management Board should prepare their performance report on a daily basis and ensure implementation of the mission of cleaning the city from the garbage.
Talking to the correspondent, Local Government Secretary Syed Najam Ahmad Shah said that efforts are being made to make all the districts of Karachi ideal in terms of cleanliness and sanitation, which would be phased out in all the districts of the province gradually. Secretary Local Government Sindh vowed that under the guidance of Chief Minister and Local Government Minister Sindh, Karachi would be made a world-class clean, and well-equipped city.
