Newly-appointed IGP Balochistan Tahir Rai Gets Farewell from Punjab Police

LAHORE– Newly-appointed Inspector General of Police Balochistan Muhammad Tahir Rai received warm farewell ceremony at the Central Police Office Punjab on Thursday.
The federal government had appointed Additional Inspector General Counter Terrorism Department Punjab Muhammad Tahir Rai as IGP Balochistan on January 19.
The federal government transferred IGP Balochistan and replaced him with Muhammad Tahir Rai.
A notification issued by the Cabinet Secretariat of the Establishment Division read that Rai has been transferred and posted as the Provincial Police Officer (PPO) Balochistan with immediate effect and until further orders.
Farewell at CPO
Inspector General of Police Punjab Inam Ghani said that Muhammad Tahir Rai and Dr. Masood Saleem are highly professional, capable and hardworking officers of Pakistan Police Service who have fulfilled every responsibility assigned by the department with utmost diligence, honesty and duty.
He further said that Muhammad Tahir Rai has a key role to play in strengthening the Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) as an institution and thanks to his excellent leadership and tireless work, terrorism has been eradicated from Punjab province.
The elements and their facilitators had to flee, and significant successes were achieved in minimizing the graph of terrorism, sectarianism and extremism. He further said that the appointment of Muhammad Tahir Rai as IG Balochistan is very welcome as he has the vast experience to meet the challenges of his new post and meet the government and public expectations due to his vast experience.
Expressing good wishes for CTD, he hoped that Muhammad Tahir Rai will be successful in eradicating terrorism from Balochistan as in Punjab. He expressed these views while addressing a farewell ceremony held at Central Police Office today on the appointment of Additional IG CTD Muhammad Tahir Rai as IG Balochistan and the retirement of DIG Crimes Dr Masood Saleem.
Additional IG Establishment Azhar Hameed Khokhar, Additional IG Investigation Fayyaz Ahmed Dev and other officers also appreciated the services of Muhammad Tahir Rai and Dr Masood Saleem.
Muhammad Tahir Rai and Dr. Masood Saleem thanked IG Punjab and other officers for organizing the ceremony in their honor. Mohammad Tahir Rai said that the appointment of IG Balochistan by the government is no less than an honor for me and I will use all my abilities to protect all the citizens and nationalities of Balochistan and maintain the atmosphere of law and order.
He further said that after a long service in the Punjab Police, I am thankful to God for appointing Balochistan Police Chief. While the equal respect of all citizens, officers and subordinates and treating them with good manners is the secret of my success.
He especially thanked Additional IG Rao Sardar, SSP Jawad Qamar and other team members for their support and cooperation and said that my first wish is to attain the status of martyrdom while ensuring protection of life and property of God’s creatures.
DIG Crimes Dr. Masood Saleem thanked all the officers including IG Punjab and said that I tried my best to perform my service with utmost diligence, honesty and conscientiousness. He further said that he was very grateful to all the officers for their full support and cooperation which enabled him to perform his professional duties to the best of his ability.
At the end of the ceremony, IG Punjab also gave souvenirs to the newly appointed IG Balochistan Muhammad Tahir Rai and Dr. Masood Saleem. All Additional IGs, DIGs and other officers including CCPO Lahore were also present on the occasion.
Muhammad Tahir Rai
Additional IG Muhammad Tahir Rai has been awarded gallantry medal Hilal-i-Shujaat in 2017 for controlling terrorism in Punjab.
He is BA from Punjab University, LL.B and LL.M form SM Law College Karachi. He also completed LL.M from London in Criminal Law.
Belonging to 1993 batch of the Police Service of Pakistan, Mr Rai served Punjab as Additional IGP CTD Punjab from 2014-2021, DIG Operations Lahore, Regional Police Officer Bahawalpur, DIG Faisalabad and DIG Elite Force.
He also remained SSP Telecommunication Punjab, DPO Sheikhupura, DPO Rahimyar Khan, DPO Muzaffargarh and Additional SP Sheikhupura.
In Sindh, Mr Rai remained SP HQ Karachi South, ASP Defence Karachi, ASP Hyderabad and ASP Khairpur.
