LAHORE—The Punjab police have so far identified 17 policemen who contracted coronavirus since March 2020.

An official document available with Lahore Mirror suggests that out of 17 cops who were tested for the coronavirus, eight have been confirmed with the virus, whereas nine others have been suspected with the virus.

Among the victims are five Assistant Sub-Inspectors, one head-constable, a traffic warden and 10 constables.

As many 11 officials are from Lahore, two from Sialkot, and one each from Gujrat, Multan, Rawalpindi and Pakpattan.

The first case was reported on March 27, while five last cases were reported on April 11.

As the virus outbreak is gaining momentum in Punjab with infected patients touching the figure of 3,000, the risk is also getting higher for policemen, who are acting as frontline force side by doctors and paramedical staff, to contract virus from the affected persons.

There are reports that the field police have been unable to get proper kits, masks and gloves from the department.
