Karachi- The State Bank of Pakistan has announced its monetary policy, reducing the interest rate by 50 basis points.

Economic experts had expected the interest rate to be maintained at the level of 11 percent; however, the Monetary Policy Committee unexpectedly decided to reduce the interest rate by 50 basis points.

The State Bank of Pakistan has released the key points of the new monetary policy, according to which, despite having room for a further reduction in the interest rate, a cautious monetary policy was adopted.
According to the State Bank’s statement, the new monetary policy will support economic growth, while the inflation rate is expected to remain between 5 and 7 percent during fiscal year 2026.
Global commodity prices are expected to remain relatively moderate, while large-scale manufacturing showed improvement, recording 4.1 percent growth in the first quarter of fiscal year 2026.
According to the statement, sales of automobiles, fertilizer, and cement increased, and wheat cultivation in the agricultural sector also remained better.
According to the State Bank, the country’s GDP growth will remain between 3.25 percent and 4.25 percent, while the current account deficit during July or October of the current fiscal year stood at $700 million.
