    PU FCIT Hosts ICPC Pakistan Regional Finals, Home Team Wins Silver Medal

    LAHORE MIRROR (Web Desk) — The Faculty of Computing and Information Technology (FCIT), University of the Punjab, hosted the International Collegiate Programming Contest (ICPC), marking a major academic milestone for the institution.

    The ICPC Pakistan Regional Final Round was successfully held on February 1, 2026. As a major academic partner, FCIT, Punjab University not only hosted but also co-hosted the prestigious national-level competition, efficiently managing all organizational responsibilities.

    The ICPC final round was conducted simultaneously at three major centers—Lahore, Karachi, and GIKI—bringing together 90 teams from leading universities across Pakistan. Participating institutions included FAST, Punjab University, NUST, GIKI, NED University, Virtual University (all campuses), University of Education, and several other prominent universities.

    The Lahore site was organized at FCIT, Punjab University’s Old Campus. Activities began on January 31 with participant registration, mock rounds, and preparatory sessions, followed by the final contest on February 1. The final round commenced at 9:30 am and continued until 2:00 pm, after which the closing ceremony was held.

    FCIT Punjab University’s team “Gatto” delivered an impressive performance by solving five problems within the stipulated time and secured the silver medal.

    The closing ceremony was attended by distinguished guests, faculty members, organizers, and students, who appreciated FCIT and Punjab University for successfully hosting an international-standard competition.

    According to the organizers, the ICPC Pakistan Regional Final plays a vital role in highlighting young talent in computer science and programming while promoting globally competitive skills among students.

    Once again, FCIT, University of the Punjab reaffirmed its leading role in advancing IT education and academic excellence. The university and FCIT administration expressed gratitude to all participating universities, students, and organizers, reiterating their commitment to continue hosting such academic and technical events to project Pakistan’s IT talent on the global stage.
