KARACHI: An investigation has begun into medico-legal officer Dr Usama, who conducted the first post-mortem examination of young businessman Mir Raza.
According to sources, the investigating team questioned Dr Usama for more than five hours, focusing in detail on discrepancies and doubts surrounding the findings of the initial post-mortem.
Sources said Dr Usama has also been directed to remain available to assist the investigation in the future.
Meanwhile, Barrister Jibran Nasir, representing Mir Raza’s family in the murder case, has written to the Sindh Chief Minister, calling for police officers who were part of the previous investigation team to be removed from sensitive posts and suspended until the inquiry is completed.
In his letter, the lawyer for Mir Raza’s father said that despite the formation of a new investigation team, the inquiry continued to revolve around the earlier position that the death was a suicide rather than murder.
He stressed the need for an independent investigation into alleged negligence by the previous investigation team and alleged irregularities in the case record.
Jibran Nasir also called for investigations against the DIG East, SSP Special Investigation Unit, SSP East and other police officers, and urged the Sindh Chief Minister to personally supervise the probe.
