LAHORE MIRROR — In Karachi, the Naegleria virus has claimed the life of another young individual.
The Sindh Health Department reported that a 29-year-old resident of District Central passed away due to Naegleria infection.
The department stated that the patient began experiencing symptoms on September 7 and was admitted to a private hospital on September 11. Confirmation of Naegleria was made after the patient’s death on September 12. This brings the total number of fatalities from Naegleria this year to five.
As reported by Dawn, the first death in Karachi from Naegleria this year occurred on February 23, when a 36-year-old woman from Gulshan-e-Iqbal died of the deadly infection at a private hospital.
Authorities said the patient had developed symptoms on February 18 and was admitted to the hospital the following day. The presence of Naegleria fowleri was confirmed a day after her death, on February 24.
