ISLAMABAD: The federal government has challenged the Supreme Court’s decision to transfer Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan to a private hospital, filing a review petition against the order.
Islamabad Chief Commissioner filed the petition through the Advocate General Islamabad.
The petition says the Supreme Court issued an interim order on August 18 directing the authorities to transfer Imran Khan to Shifa International Hospital. It argues that the court exceeded its jurisdiction in issuing the directive and urges it to review the order.
The Supreme Court on Tuesday ordered the transfer of Imran Khan to a private hospital and directed the authorities to constitute a medical board to assess his health.
The PTI welcomed the Supreme Court’s decision and said it would respect the ruling. The party also said it would not politicise the matter concerning Imran Khan’s political affairs.
Meanwhile, Federal Minister for Law and Justice Azam Nazeer Tarar had indicated that the federal government would challenge the Supreme Court’s decision through a review petition.
He said the government wanted Imran Khan to undergo a medical examination at a government hospital.
