GOA (Lahore Mirror) — Veteran Bollywood actor Nana Patekar has died at the age of 75 after suffering a cardiac arrest at his residence in Goa, according to Indian media reports.
Patekar was reportedly found unconscious after complaining of chest pain. A medical team performed CPR before rushing him to a hospital, where he was declared dead early Thursday morning. A medico-legal case has been registered and a post-mortem examination is expected to be conducted.
Born Vishwanath Patekar, the actor began his film career in 1978 with Gaman and went on to build a celebrated career across Hindi and Marathi cinema.
He won three National Film Awards for Parinda, Agni Sakshi and Krantiveer, and received the Padma Shri in 2013.
Patekar also earned a new generation of fans for his memorable portrayal of gangster Uday Shetty in the 2007 comedy Welcome. His other notable work included Mira Nair’s Oscar-nominated Salaam Bombay!.
He leaves behind a nearly five-decade legacy in Indian cinema.
