LAHORE MIRROR — A middle-aged doctor, his wife and their three minor daughters were found dead under mysterious circumstances in their apartment in Ahsanabad, Scheme-33, off the Superhighway, on Sunday, police said.
The five partially decomposed bodies were recovered from a seventh-floor apartment and shifted to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital for post-mortem examinations.
They were identified as 45-year-old Dr Umer, his 35-year-old wife Mehwish and their daughters, including 13-year-old Zainab. The other two girls were aged between two and four.
Police Surgeon Dr Summaiya Syed said there were no apparent injury marks on the bodies, which were in an advanced stage of decomposition. She said the cause of death had been reserved pending chemical analysis, while samples had been collected for DNA testing.
SITE Superhighway Industrial Area SHO Mohammed Nawaz said police were alerted by the building’s union after residents noticed a foul smell. The apartment was locked from inside and officers broke open the door before discovering the bodies.
East SSP Zubair Nazir Shaikh said the bodies appeared to have been there for around three days. He said investigators were awaiting post-mortem reports and collecting CCTV footage and other evidence.
Police said Dr Umer worked at a private hospital near his residence and had recently been diagnosed with cancer. Neighbours also reported that he was facing financial difficulties.
Investigators are questioning neighbours and hospital staff to determine the circumstances surrounding the deaths.
