ISLAMABAD: The federal government has declared Wednesday, August 26, a public holiday across Pakistan to mark Eid Milad-un-Nabi (PBUH).
The Cabinet Division issued a notification following approval by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, declaring August 26 a nationwide holiday.
The date for the public holiday was confirmed after the Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee announced last week that the moon for Rabi-ul-Awwal had not been sighted.
Eid Milad-un-Nabi is observed on 12 Rabi-ul-Awwal, the third month of the Islamic lunar calendar, to commemorate the birth of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH).
Across Pakistan, people will mark the occasion with Mehfil-e-Milad, Quran recitations, Na’at and Durood-o-Salam gatherings. Mosques, homes and streets are traditionally decorated, while religious events are held in cities and towns across the country.
Religious scholars use the occasion to highlight the teachings, character and exemplary life of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), urging Muslims to follow his Sunnah and incorporate his teachings into their daily lives.
