ISLAMABAD: Federal Minister for Information Atta Tarar has confirmed that Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan was taken to the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) for a medical examination and subsequently returned to Adiala Jail.
In a statement posted on social media platform X, Tarar said the prisoner was taken to the hospital under security arrangements during the night between August 20 and 21, where he was examined by qualified doctors, including specialists in ophthalmology and cardiology as well as a physician.
He said Imran Khan was taken to PIMS instead of Shifa International Hospital in view of the security situation created by PTI workers on the route to and outside Shifa Hospital. Doctors from Shifa Hospital were also present at PIMS, he added.
According to the information minister, the doctors declared Imran Khan medically fit. His sister, Uzma Khan, remained present throughout the medical examination and treatment process.
Tarar said Imran Khan was transferred back to Adiala Jail at 5am on August 21 following the medical examination.
The minister said Khan had previously been provided with medical facilities whenever required and would continue to receive medical care whenever necessary.
It may be recalled that the Supreme Court, in its ruling issued on Wednesday, had ordered that Khan be shifted to Shifa International Hospital for medical treatment.
