LONDON/LOS ANGELES (REUTERS): Prince Harry and his wife, Meghan, are planning to move back to Britain this month, six years after stepping down as working royals and relocating to the United States, according to a source close to the couple.
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are reportedly planning to move from California to Britain for an extended period with their children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet, who are expected to start school there in September.
The move comes after years of strained relations with the Royal Family and repeated criticism of the British press. Harry and Meghan have previously said intense media scrutiny contributed to their decision to leave Britain.
They will not live in a royal residence and will remain non-working members of the Royal Family, in line with the arrangements agreed when they stepped back from royal duties in March 2020.
British media reported that King Charles learned of the couple’s plans on Sunday. Buckingham Palace and Harry’s spokesperson declined to comment.
Relations between Harry and his father have shown signs of improvement in recent months, with the King recently meeting his son and seeing his grandchildren during their visit to Britain. However, Harry’s relationship with his elder brother, Prince William, remains strained.
The couple married at Windsor Castle in 2018 before moving to California, where they pursued commercial ventures including Netflix programming and Meghan’s podcast. Their relationship with the Royal Family deteriorated further following a television interview with Oprah Winfrey, a Netflix documentary and Harry’s memoir, Spare.
