ISLAMABAD: The government has launched a dedicated app under its retailer scheme to facilitate traders and bring more small businesses into the tax net.
Speaking at a press conference alongside the finance minister in Islamabad, Minister of State for Finance Bilal Azhar Kayani said the retailer scheme app had been formally launched on Wednesday after being developed in consultation with traders.
He said the app would also cater to shopkeepers who were not yet part of the tax net, enabling them to become filers and submit their tax returns through their mobile phones.
Kayani said registered retailers would receive exemption from point-of-sale requirements under the scheme. Small shopkeepers would have to pay a minimum tax of Rs25,000, while the government would issue traders a green plate.
He said FBR officials would not enter shops displaying the green plate.
The minister said registered retailers would pay tax at a rate of one per cent of their sales through the app. The app would also become available in local languages by the first week of September.
He said the scheme would bring millions of traders into the tax net, adding that its successful implementation would help reduce the tax burden on the salaried class.
Speaking on the occasion, Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb said the government was also simplifying tax returns for salaried individuals and would introduce an easier tax return form for the salaried class.
