The Youth General Assembly (YGA) hosted a dinner reception in honour of Punjab Assembly Speaker Malik Muhammad Ahmad Khan, to celebrate his selection as the “Commonwealth Parliamentarian of the Year 2025” by the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association (CPA).

The event brought together members of the Punjab Cabinet, parliamentarians, diplomats, and prominent figures from civil society. It was organized by Ch. Humayun Sarwar, Mian Shahid Mahmood, and Youth General Assembly Founder & President Fahad Shahbaz.

Among the distinguished attendees were Punjab Minister for Law Rana Muhammad Iqbal, Minister for Labour and Human Resource Khawaja Manshaullah Butt, Minister for Industries, Commerce and Investment Ch Shafay Hussain, Parliamentary Leader of the Pakistan Peoples Party in Punjab Assembly Syed Ali Haider Gillani, Chief Whip of the Pakistan Muslim League (N) in Punjab Assembly Rana Muhammad Arshad, Chairperson Punjab Women Protection Authority Hina Parvez Butt, IPP leader Shoaib Siddiqui, and Advocate General Punjab Amjad Pervez. The Consul General of Iran, Mr Mehran Mohedefar, and the Consul General of Turkiye, Mr Mehmet Emin Şimşek, also graced the occasion.

Speaking at the event, Speaker Malik Muhammad Ahmad Khan reaffirmed his commitment to transparency, accountability, and the strengthening of the committee system in the Punjab Assembly. He presented an overview of the Assembly’s performance over the past one and a half years, highlighting reforms such as expanded digital access to legislative records, regularized committee meetings, and improved responsiveness to parliamentary questions.

He emphasised that empowering committees was vital to strengthening executive oversight and ensuring that governance aligns with public expectations.

The Youth General Assembly described the CPA recognition as a proud moment for Pakistan, particularly for the Punjab Assembly, and reaffirmed its resolve to continue promoting democratic values, transparent governance, and parliamentary diplomacy at national and global levels.
