KARACHI: Since the establishment of Baqai Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences, in 1996, it had remained as one of the prominent institute of pharmacy education in Baqai Medical University, recognized by the PakistanPharmacy Council and Higher Education Commission of Pakistan. Moving back to the history the students studying in this institute, through hard work and their devotion, had played in an important role in various domains and their continuous achievements lead to the persistence of the institute as the premier center for education as well as research.
One such remarkable achievement for this month was the representation of Baqai Institute of Pharmaceutical sciences in undergraduate Research Conference titled as “Women Novelty in Contemporaneous Medical Sciences and Research on 27th February’ 2019 conducted by the Rotaract club of Karachi Karsaz-RID 3271 in collaboration with Dr. ESSA laboratory and diagnostic centre, where 12 undergraduate students of Baqai Institute of Pharmaceutical sciences (BIPS) namely, Maliha Hassan, Ayesha Ahmed, Maria Bibi, Fatima Shamim, Iqra Khan, Kanza Fatima Khan, Maham Ali, Mahrukh Khaliq, Syeda Iqra Batool, Zainab Qureshi, Zainab Tilawat, and Sumaiya Moten presented the institute, currently enrolled in the 2nd , 3rd , and final year respectively where their research was appreciated with extraordinary remarks by the WNCMSR judges.
For the WNCMSR undergraduate Students Research Conference, there were 60+ submissions received for the researches abstract from universities and hospitals all around Karachi, and 32 abstracts were shortlisted to be presented by more than 7 medical and health sciences institutes. The researches were presented through 2 methods, i.e. through Verbal presentation or either by the Poster presentation divided into 4 categories, i.e. A, B, C and D respectively according to the method of presentation and the titles of the research. Since words are more authorative in permeating the influence, 4 of our students namely Fatima Shamim, Maham Ali, Zainab Tilawat, and Sumaiya Moten opted for oral presentations; where as rest of the 8 students were representing their abstracts in poster category. All the presenters were supervised for their researches by Dr. Zuneera Akram, who herself is a quite inspiring and one of the energized pharmacist currently enrolled in PhD. in the same institute.
As soon as the research study was selected for the conference, Students along with their Batch coordinators Ms Aisha Noreen and Dr. Muzammil Hussain and the supervisor Dr. Zuneera Akram had been working hard in order to present their institute the best way they could and their devotion as well as constancy bought an accomplishment for the institute.
This year’s participants were judged by an esteemed panel of judges including: Dr. Rehana Parveen, Chairperson of Department of Pharmacology, Baqai Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences, Baqai Medical University; Dr. Saima Mehmood, Associate professor, Department of Pharmacology, Faculty of Pharmacy, Dow University of Health and Sciences; Dr. Mehnaz Nuruddin Gitay, Dow International Medical College, Dow Medical University for oral presentations. Dr. Sadaf Ibrahim, Associate professor, Head of the Department, Department of Pharmacology, Faculty of Pharmacy, Ziauddin Medical University; Dr. Saima Faraz, Faculty member and Researcher, Clinical Microbiologist, Department of Microbiology, FUUAST University; and Res. Sikander Sherwani (Pro), Medical Microbiologist and Immunologist, Department of Microbiology, FUUAST University, and a President of Medical Microbiology Association of Pakistan made up the panel for poster presentations.
The WNCMSR judges appreciated the efforts of a young emerging supervisor Dr. Zuneera Akram and her dynamic undergraduate researchers Ms. Maham Ali, who ranked 3rd in verbal competition; and Ms. Ayesha Ahmed and Ms. Maria Bibi for receiving the 1st prize and Ms. Mahrukh Khaliq for receiving 3rdprize in Poster competition. The WNCMSR teams awarded special award for maximum undergraduate students participation to Baqai Medical University, received by Prof Dr. Rehana Perveen and another award for the person who supervised maximum undergrad’s for this research conference was received by Dr Zuneera Akram.
We would like to congratulate the Baqai Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences, Medical University for such a big achievement before the end of second successful month of 2019 and acknowledge all of the struggles as well as the endeavors of every single person who is proudly claiming oneself as a BIPSian with the dedication.
