LAHORE MIRROR — Police have arrested one suspect following an alleged assault on a young man near the seaside in Karachi’s Defence Phase 6, while the victim, Ali Jafri, has recorded an initial statement with investigators.
According to sources, Jafri told police that he had gone to Defence Phase 6 with friends for dinner on August 29. As he left the restaurant, the suspects allegedly struck him on his head with a baseball bat, and he eventually lost consciousness.
He alleged that the suspects then forced him into a vehicle, assaulted him and demanded that he apologise, while one of them stood nearby pointing a pistol at him.
He also claimed that the suspects used his digital wallet to make purchases and threatened to harm him and his family.
Ali Jafri named several individuals in his initial statement and said he had no previous enmity with anyone. Police, however, said the young man had been involved in an altercation at a gaming zone.
A video of the alleged assault, in which the victim was severely beaten and suffered a broken leg, had gone viral on social media. Following the video’s emergence, South DIG Asad Raza ordered an inquiry.
Police said one suspect had been arrested, while the roles of the other alleged perpetrators were being investigated. Further action will be taken on the basis of the victim’s statement and other evidence.
