KARACHI– Special Assistant to CM Sindh on Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities Sindh Syed Qasim Naveed Qamar has said that Sindh government is making all-out efforts to enable differently-abled people to live an independent life with dignity and for the purpose, it has taken many initiatives, which may be called milestones in the history of Pakistan. This he said in a statement issued here on Disable International Day.
He said that Sindh government was the first in Pakistan to issue driving licence to hearing-impaired persons and working on Unified Sign Language for hearing impaired persons. He added, ‘ Implementation of 5 % job quota for differently-abled people in public and private sector is strictly followed and issuance of Disability Certificates through medical boards is also being done properly.
Special Assistant to CM Sindh on DEPD Syed Qasim Naveed Qamar said that DEPD was ensuring transparency in issuance of Disability Certificates and issuance of Special CNICs to differently-abled people in collaboration with NADRA was another good work of Sindh Government for special persons. He said that special washrooms and parking places in public and private buildings for differently-abled people were another requirement of them, which we were trying to ensure.
Syed Qasim Naveed Qamar further said that Sindh government was also ensuring ramps in public and private buildings including shopping malls for differently-abled people and working on forming Consortium of NGOs, working for the welfare of differently-abled children and persons. He said that enhancing teachers’ capacity for teaching special children in collaboration with reputed institutions and also improving the infrastructure of Special Education and Rehabilitation Centres across the province.
Syed Qasim Naveed Qamar said that Sindh Govt has enhanced Special Conveyance Allowance for its differently-abled employees and Vocational training is being provided to Persons with Disabilities in order to make them a useful citizen of the society. He requested all other stakeholders of the society to come forward to help out these differently-abled people to enable them to live a respectful life.
