KARACHI: Sindh Senior Minister for Information, Transport and Mass Transit Sharjeel Inam Memon inaugurated the Mosamiyat Flyover on Sunday, marking another step in the development of Karachi’s Red Line Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) project.
The inauguration was attended by Sindh Minister Saeed Ghani and Karachi Deputy Mayor Salman Abdullah Murad. Memon also inspected the Red Line corridor and received a briefing from officials on the progress of the project.
However, images from the ceremony showing a red carpet laid along the route of the minister’s vehicles drew attention on social media, with some questioning the use of such arrangements at a public infrastructure event.

Memon said the flyover was an important component of the Red Line project and would soon be opened for public use after the completion of the remaining formalities. He also said work on University Road had reached its final stages.
The minister acknowledged delays in the wider BRT project and apologized to the public. He attributed some of the difficulties to rising construction costs, including increases in the prices of the dollar, cement and petrol.
The Red Line BRT is intended to improve public transport and connectivity across Karachi, while the newly inaugurated flyover is expected to help ease traffic movement along the corridor.
