Punjab Govt To Not Shy Away From Any Measure To Stabilize Wheat, Flour Prices: Abdul Aleem

LAHORE– Senior Food Minister Punjab Abdul Aleem Khan has said that he will not shy away from any measure to stabilize wheat and flour prices in the province and stockists will not be allowed to compromise at any cost.  Azam Imran Khan has removed all obstacles in the way of wheat import and as soon as 500,000 tonnes of wheat is imported, the prices will come down automatically.

He expressed these views on the new system of wheat and flour prices and subsidy.  Presiding over a high-level meeting on the issue, Abdul Aleem Khan said that the federal government’s duty has been waived on the orders of the Prime Minister and now the private sector can import as much wheat as it wants from abroad.

Instructing the meeting to prepare new recommendations for wheat and flour prices, Senior Punjab Minister Abdul Aleem Khan said that subsidy on flour without any discrimination was not a proper procedure for all. He said that only the poor and deserving people could get cheap prices.  Flour should be available for which Ehsas program data or network of utility stores can be used. Abdul Aleem Khan said that due to demand and supply issues, the prices of wheat and flour fluctuate.

According to estimates, 5 million tonnes of wheat production is still in the market which some elements hold for surplus profit. Senior Minister Abdul Aleem Khan said that Prime Minister Imran Khan’s decision to import wheat would be very useful and insha-Allah province  Wheat and flour will be available at reasonable rates with abundance. Senior Minister Abdul Aleem Khan directed the officials of Food Department to immediately prepare new recommendations regarding targeted subsidy which were approved by Punjab Chief Minister Imran Khan.  Khan will be presented.

Punjab Industries Minister Mian Aslam Iqbal and Chief Secretary Jawad Rafique Malik also attended the meeting and expressed their views on wheat and flour prices.  Food Secretary Waqas Ali Mahmood briefed on the current state of wheat stocks and highlighted new recommendations, especially regarding flour subsidy–PRESS RELEASE
