PTI President Pervaiz Elahi Re-arrested After AC Court Orders His Release

LAHORE: PTI President Parvez Elahi was arrested again on Friday minutes after a judicial magistrate in Lahore ordered his release in an embezzlement case.

The PTI leader has been re-arrested in a corruption case registered against him in Gujranwala by Anti-Corruption Establishment (ACE) Punjab.

The PTI leader was arrested a day earlier by the ACE Punjab in the Rs70 million corruption case related to the embezzlement of development funds allocated for the Gujrat district.

Judicial Magistrate Ghulam Murtaza Virk issued the release orders while announcing the verdict he had reserved on a plea seeking Elahi’s physical remand.

“Parvez Elahi should be released if he is not wanted in any other case,” the verdict had said.

Judicial Magistrate Murtaza had reserved the verdict after hearing the former Punjab chief minister’s case, where the ACE Punjab requested the court for his 14-day physical remand.

During the hearing, Elahi’s counsel Advocate Rana Intizar informed the court that all documents related to the projects are available.

“Anti-corruption watchdog is introducing its own law under which the judge hearing the cases will be of their choice,” the council said, adding that on January 17, 2023 a payment worth Rs360 million was made when Naqvi was the chief minister.

Earlier today, the former Punjab chief minister claimed innocence and said that he is a “supporter” of the Pakistan Army, urging party supporters to stay strong.

Elahi — while speaking to reporters before his appearance in the court — said: “I am innocent and a supporter of Pakistan Army.”

In his message to party workers and supporters, the former CM urged them to “stay strong”.
