LAHORE MIRROR — Police have arrested Konein Shah, the main suspect accused of assaulting Karachi University professor Arif Saqi and his nephew, Waheed, following a minor dispute outside a restaurant.
Police officials said Shah was arrested over fears that he might flee the city. The suspect had earlier obtained pre-arrest bail in the case.
The development came after a meeting of the Sindh Assembly’s Standing Committee on Home Affairs, chaired by Faryal Talpur, on Thursday, where the incident was discussed. Talpur expressed strong displeasure over the failure to arrest the main suspect and directed police officials to arrest him at the earliest.
Earlier on Thursday afternoon, a heavy contingent of police also shut down the suspect’s restaurant in Safora.
According to the FIR registered at Sachal police station, Shah, along with several accomplices, allegedly assaulted Professor Arif Saqi and his nephew Waheed outside the restaurant on Tuesday following a minor dispute.
The arrest follows mounting pressure on police to take action against those allegedly involved in the assault.
