LAHORE: Newly elected Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) Prime Minister Iftikhar Gilani has said no one is above the writ of the state and vowed to uphold it at all costs, while seeking political solutions to the issues facing the region.
Mr Gilani was speaking at a high tea hosted in his honour by senior journalist and anchorperson Farukh Warraich at the Pearl Continental Hotel in Lahore.
He thanked Mr Warraich for hosting the gathering and said resolving the problems of the people of Azad Kashmir would be the government’s foremost priority.
He said his government would take measures to provide relief to the people and accelerate development in the state.
“PML-N’s performance needs no introduction; its practical work is its identity,” Mr Gilani said, adding that public service, development and prosperity would remain key priorities of his government.
The AJK premier said the writ of the state would be upheld under all circumstances and that his government would try to resolve issues through political means.
“I will live up to the confidence reposed in me by the party leadership,” he said.
Mr Gilani said PML-N President Nawaz Sharif and Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz had given a 100-day plan for Azad Kashmir. He expressed confidence that its implementation would usher in a “new era” in the region.
