Lahore Police Give Final Shape to Security Plan for Sri Lankan Cricket Team


LAHORE– Lahore Police (Operations wing) is all set to provide foolproof security to the visiting Sri Lankan team as well as Pakistani cricket players for the forthcoming T-20 cricket series matches to be held in Lahore.

This was stated by Deputy Inspector General of Police (Operations Wing) Lahore Ashfaq Ahmad Khan who presided over a high level meeting Saturday to review security plan chalked out by Lahore Police to ensure security to the Sri Lankan players, series matches and the citizens.

SSP Operations Lahore Ismail ur Rehman Kharak, SP Cantt Division Safdar Raza Kazmi, SP Model Town Imran Ahmad Malik, SP Civil Lines Dost Muhammad, SDPOs, SHOs and related officers attended the meeting.

DIG Operations Lahore Ashfaq Khan said that citizens will only be allowed to enter the stadium after complete checking and will not be allowed to bring with them any prohibited items.

He said that Lahore Police has earlier provided foolproof security to all the national and international cricket events being held in Lahore.

“We will also ensure complete implementation on SOPs fixed regarding security to conduct the matches of T-20 series in peaceful atmosphere.”

Ashfaq Khan said that round the clock monitoring of the residential places of teams, matches and movements in and round the cricket stadium will be ensured through the CCTV cameras of Punjab Safe Cities Authority.

He said that Lahore Police has always played pivotal role to restore International Cricket in Pakistan by providing maximum security to these events.

The DIG directed the concerned officers to remain in completed coordination with related departments for security arrangements and conduct search and sweep operations in the city particularly around the stadium and residences of cricket players to fail any possible nefarious designs of anti social elements.

Ashfaq Khan further said that negligence in this regard will not be tolerated at any cost.

He stressed upon the need to adopt even better and effective strategy to provide foolproof security during these matches. The participants of the meeting also presented suggestions to improve the security arrangements of Pak-Sri Lanka T-20 matches.— PRESS HANDOUT
