LAHORE MIRROR — Four injured Pakistani crew members and the bodies of three others killed in a pirate attack in Somalia have been brought back to Pakistan, with the injured shifted to hospitals and the deceased handed over to their families.
Two of the injured were taken to private hospitals in Karachi in Rescue 1122 ambulances after arriving at Karachi airport, while the other two are being sent to Islamabad and Lahore for treatment.
Sindh Governor Nihal Hashmi, provincial ministers Nasir Hussain Shah and Saeed Ghani, MQM leaders Farooq Sattar and Waseem Akhtar, Jamaat-e-Islami MPA Muhammad Farooq, Director General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Irfan Soomro and other officials received the injured crew members at the airport.
Governor Hashmi said the country was passing through a difficult time and announced that the government would provide Rs12.5 million and a plot to the heirs of each deceased crew member.
Dr Sanobar of Jinnah Hospital’s emergency department said one injured man had suffered a bullet wound to his ribs, while another had sustained a gunshot injury to his arm. Both were shifted to private hospitals at their request.
The bodies of Mahmood Ahmed Ansari and Rafiullah, who were killed while in captivity of Somali pirates, were brought home and their funeral prayers were offered. The funeral of Kashif Umar will be held on Monday.
