ESA Organizes Training For Disaster Management Students And Volunteers

LAHORE- The Emergency Services Academy (ESA) organized training for students of MS Disaster Management University of Engineering and Technology (UET) and Volunteers of VSO Pakistan to enhance professional skills of emergency preparedness, response, and prevention of future practitioner of urban planning, disaster management and volunteers.

In this regard, a closing the ceremony of CADRE training was held at Managers Training Center ESA here on Friday, which was attended by Prof Dr Shakir Mahmood Chairman Department of City & Regional Planning UET, Mr Barkat Youth Resilience, and Humanitarian Coordinator VSO Pakistan, Registrar Academy, Head of Safety and all participants.

 

While addressing the ceremony, Director General Punjab Emergency Service Dr Rizwan said that right city planning is essential to prevent disasters in the future. In this regard, practical training of disaster management students and volunteers is need of the hour to have a better understanding of the hazards identification, taking appropriate mitigation measures and safety promotion. He added emphasized that better preparedness at the community level can be helpful to save many precious lives and properties.

Speaking on the occasion Prof Dr Shakir Mahmood said that we are highly thankful to DG Rescue Punjab for providing an opportunity of learning practical aspects of disaster planning management planning preparedness response and prevention to the students of disaster management, which shall be helpful in their professional career. We are looking forward to having collaboration with Rescue Service for the regular internship of the students, future courses and data sharing for evidence-based research for better planning. This academy shall provide house job facilities to the students of disaster management like hospitals for medical colleges.

Moreover, this four-day-long course internationally recognized Community Action for Disaster Response (CADRE) Course organized on requests of Chairman Department of City & Regional Planning UET Lahore and VSO Pakistan for 23 participants.

The training started on 18th February 2020 and concluded on 21st February 2020 at Emergency Services Academy. The senior officers including Dr Muhammad Farhan Khalid Course Monitor, Muhammad Ahsan Course Coordinator and team of instructors imparted training to participants through lectures practical followed by simulation exercise of disaster response.

The topic including Common Hazards and the Community Response Group, Securing Family Preparing for Response, First Aid and Basic Life Support, Basic Search and Rescue, Management of Fire and Water  emergencies, Incident Command System & Triage, Dead body Management, management of fire and water emergencies have been covered during training.

At the end of the DG Rescue Punjab ensured to provide all support for capacity building of students of disaster management and other departments of UET and volunteers of VSO. He appreciated the efforts of Safety Wing all instructors for organizing this fruitful practical course for the students of UET and volunteers of VSO Pakistan. He congratulated and presented certificates to successful participants.–HANDOUT
