LAHORE MIRROR– The federal government is reportedly planning to impose an emergency in 12 districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, including all eight tribal districts, while governor’s rule is expected to be enforced in the remaining districts of the province, according to sources.
The sources said the districts where the emergency would be imposed include Kurram, Upper and Lower South Waziristan, North Waziristan, Bajaur, Mohmand, Khyber, Orakzai, Bannu, Lakki Marwat, Tank and Dera Ismail Khan.
A FATA Council would be established to oversee the 12 districts, with the additional chief secretary serving as its head. An additional inspector general of police would also be part of the council, the sources said.
Four local representatives from each district would also be included in the council, which would oversee development projects, law and order and other administrative matters. The council would operate under federal control, while governor’s rule would be imposed in the rest of the province, according to the sources.
The reported plan comes after the federal government agreed in principle to impose an emergency in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
Sources said a meeting of the federal cabinet had been scheduled for 9.30am on Sunday, where approval for imposing the emergency in the province was expected to be sought.
