Coronavirus: Punjab Police Register 11,153 Cases Under Section 144, Book 263 Hoarders Since March 16

LAHORE– Amid the coronavirus outbreak and lockdown, police teams in all districts of Punjab have booked people in 11,153 cases in violation of Section 144 and registered another 263 cases against hoarders since March 16 

Likewise, police teams along with doctors are on the front line and taking steps under the supervision of DPOs to prevent the virus besides taking legal actions against hoarders under the hoarding act. Such callous hoarders are being arrested for selling equipment under undue profit.

According to a police spokesman, police since its operation since 16th March established 1,490 pickets where 87,935 vehicles and 194,698 motorcycles have been checked. At police pickets, as many 424,999 citizens were stopped and 268,894 have been released on warning.

Surety bonds have been taken from 19,205 citizens, whereas in violation of section 144, 11,153 FIRs have been registered and 19,464 citizens have been arrested and among them 9,909 citizens have been released on bail. Actions have been taken against 2,030 shops and 259 restaurants.

Likewise, 263 cases have been registered registered against hoarding and legal action has been taken against 309 violators in this regard, whereas 235 accused have been arrested and 105 accused have been released on bail.

During 23 days, police teams provided awareness to 78,973 citizens and also provided help to 82,844 citizens. Moreover, during last day, 1,490 pickets have been established in the province where 6,361 vehicles and 14,570 motorcycles have been checked. Among 29,844 citizens checked on police pickets, 18,655 citizens have been released on warning. Surety bonds have been taken from 1,500 citizens.1,045 accused have been arrested, whereas 289 accused took bail.

Collectively, 679 FIRs have been registered in which 1,401 accused have been nominated, whereas action has been taken against 90 shops and 33 restaurants. Similarly, during 24 hours action against hoarding, 05 cases have been registered and legal action has been taken against 07 accused. Police teams during duty gave awareness of the corona to 6,342 citizens and provided help to 2,897 citizens.

Inspector General of Punjab Police Shoaib Dastagir, on the occasion, stressed upon regional and district police chiefs to speed up actions against violators of law and directed to continue actions against those who don’t follow directions of the government and also submit the progress report of crackdown to the Central police office on daily basis.

He further said officers and officials deputed in field should follow and ensure precautionary measures of the coronavirus pandemi and take steps along with other government departments to counter this virus and help out citizens.— PRESS RELEASE
