MUZAFFARABAD: Newly elected Azad Jammu and Kashmir Prime Minister Barrister Iftikhar Ali Gillani has announced that internet services across the region will begin to be restored within the next two days, along with the reopening of major entry and exit routes.
Speaking to journalists during his first visit to the Central Press Club after assuming office, Gillani said the routes connecting Azad Kashmir with other parts of the country would be restored within two days.
He also announced a phased restoration of internet services. As part of the first phase, internet connectivity for educational institutions is expected to be restored within the next two days, allowing students and teachers to resume online academic activities.
The announcement comes after a period of disruption that affected communication and connectivity across parts of Azad Kashmir.
Gillani said his government would focus on addressing public grievances and improving governance and administrative affairs across the region.
He also said the Kashmir freedom movement and good governance would remain among the key priorities of his administration.
Barrister Iftikhar Ali Gillani, a Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) lawmaker, was elected the 17th prime minister of Azad Jammu and Kashmir two days earlier after securing 30 votes in the Legislative Assembly.
Following his election, the new AJK government has indicated that restoring normalcy, improving public services and addressing citizens’ concerns will be among its immediate priorities.
