Additional IG South Punjab Inam Ghani Will Now Command Punjab Police

LAHORE– Additional Inspector General of Police South Punjab Inam Ghani will now assume the command of Punjab Police as the federal government has appointed him Provincial Police Officer Punjab with immediate effect.

Mr Ghani, who is BS-21 officer, has replaced IG Shoaib Dastgir following alleged controversy involving newly-appointed CCPO Lahore Umar Sheikh.

Mr Dastgir, who is grade-22 officer, has been appointed Secretary Narcotics Control Division vice Allah Dino Khawaja who has been transferred ad posted Member (Incharge) Wafaqi Mohtasib (Ombudsman)’s Secretariat, Regional Office Karachi on deputation basis.

A notification in this regard was issued by the Establishment Division Islamabad.

Mr Ghani was appointed Additional IG South Punjab a couple of months ago. He was transferred from the post of Additional IG Operations Punjab.

Belonging to 17th Common of Police Service of Pakistan, Mr Ghani is from district Malakand of Khyber Pakhtunkhawa. He has served key positions in Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) and Intelligence Bureau (IB).

Soon after his posting as IG, the newly-appointed IGP left Multan for Lahore to assume his charge. He is likely to assume charge soon after reaching Lahore.

‘Dark Horse’

The PTI government again gave a surprise to Punjab police by announcing the name of Inam Ghani as three names were under consideration for the top slot.

IG National Highways and Motorway Police Syed Kaleem Imam, IG Baclhistan Mohsin Refique Butt, IG A D Khawaja were among the top contenders.

Mr Ghani is said to have close association with Principal Secretary to Prime Minister Azam Khan who is empowered by the premier to decide the names of top offices in Punjab and KP. Other members are Arbab Shahzad and Secretary Establishment.

Profile of new IGP

Inam Ghani, who has been posted as Inspector General of Police Punjab, is one of the most professional, capable, honest and dutiful police officers in the Pakistan Police Service.

Inam Ghani was holding the post of Additional IG South Punjab at that time while he had earlier held the post of Additional IG Operations Punjab.

IG Punjab Inam Ghani hails from Malakand district in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. He joined the Pakistan Police Service in 1989 as ASP. He belongs to the 17th Common. He holds MA Political Science, LLB and LLM degrees. At the beginning of his career, Inam Ghani served at CSA and National Police Academy, Islamabad.

He served as SP (UT), ADOFC, ASP People’s Colony Faisalabad, ASP City Faisalabad, ASP Nawankot, Lahore, after which he served on the UN Mission in Mozambique on behalf of Pakistan. On his return, Inam Ghani visited SP Site Division West Karachi, DPO Haripur, DPO Karak, DPO Swabi, DPO Mansehra, DPO Charsadda, SSP Operations Peshawar, SP Headquarters Islamabad and also held the post SSP Security Islamabad. In addition, he served as Director FIA (NWFP), Director FIA Admin (FIA Headquarters Islamabad), Director FIA Punjab, Director FIA Islamabad, Director FIA Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Commandant FIA Academy, Director FIA Islamabad, Directing Staff National School of Public Policy Lahore, Deputy Director General IB Islamabad. ۔

After the promotion of Additional IG, Inam Ghani was posted as Additional IG Operations CPO Lahore while some time ago he was posted as Additional IG South Punjab where he was performing his duties. Inam Ghani also served as Officer on Special Duty USA, Consular Labor and Community Welfare Embassy of Pakistan in Kuwait, representing the beloved homeland.

Inam Ghani has extensive experience of performing professional duties in very important positions abroad including Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Punjab, FIA. He has performed every duty assigned during his professional career. He has presented practical proof of his expertise by performing his duties with full dedication, hard work and sense of duty and he is considered as one of the most professional, seasoned and experienced officers of Punjab Police.
