Bollywood actor and former parliamentarian Govinda has warned of strict legal action against those allegedly spreading false and unsubstantiated reports about his personal life, with a legal notice reportedly seeking damages of up to Rs1 billion.
Govinda’s personal life has remained in the spotlight in recent months, with various claims circulating about his relationship with his wife, Sunita Ahuja, their reported divorce proceedings and his alleged association with actor Komal Rani Swarankar.
According to the legal notice issued on Govinda’s behalf, media organisations, social media users and digital platforms have been warned against publishing or sharing false, fabricated or unverified information concerning the actor.
The notice also reportedly covers photographs, videos, audio recordings, deepfakes and other artificially generated content. It states that Govinda has not authorised anyone to digitally misuse his identity or publish material concerning his private life.
The issue gained further attention after reports circulated claiming that Govinda had allegedly married Komal Rani Swarankar in a court ceremony. Earlier, reports had also emerged about possible divorce proceedings between Govinda and Sunita.
Govinda’s legal team reportedly maintains that such claims are damaging his reputation and causing him social and mental distress.
Details provided by the actor’s manager and team indicate that failure to stop the alleged dissemination of such material could lead to civil and criminal proceedings under defamation, privacy and cybercrime laws.
The notice also reportedly warns that court orders could be sought against the financial assets and bank accounts of individuals found responsible for the alleged violations.
Meanwhile, Sunita Ahuja was recently seen leaving a family court in Mumbai with the couple’s son, Yashvardhan Ahuja. Govinda’s manager, Shashi Sinha, later said that Sunita had withdrawn her divorce petition, which had reportedly remained pending for nearly two years.
