LAHORE MIRROR — The International Cricket Council (ICC) has fined Pakistan players 5 per cent of their match fees for maintaining a slow over-rate in the final of the tri-nation series against Sri Lanka in Lahore on Saturday.
According to the ICC, Pakistan were found to be one over short of the required target after time allowances were taken into consideration. Match referee Jeff Crowe imposed the penalty.
The fine was imposed under Article 2.22 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel, which provides for a 5 per cent deduction from players’ match fees for every over their side fails to bowl within the allotted time.
Pakistan captain Shaheen Afridi admitted the offence and accepted the proposed sanction, avoiding the need for a formal hearing.
Pakistan defeated Sri Lanka by three wickets in the final to clinch the tri-nation series title, successfully chasing a target of 326 with nine balls to spare.
Fakhar Zaman was the standout performer, scoring 127 off 99 deliveries, including 11 fours and six sixes, to register his 12th ODI century.
