LAHORE MIRROR — Pakistan’s Chief of Army Staff and Chief of Defence Forces (CDF) Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, arrived in Tehran on Tuesday at the head of a high-level delegation for talks with Iranian officials on bilateral relations, regional developments, diplomatic efforts and key international issues.
According to Iran’s state news agency IRNA, Munir is scheduled to meet senior Iranian officials during the visit, with his first planned meeting set to be with Iran’s foreign minister.
Discussions are expected to focus on Pakistan-Iran relations, the evolving regional situation, ongoing diplomatic initiatives, efforts to de-escalate tensions in the region and broader international developments.
The visit comes as Pakistan continues to play an important role in facilitating diplomatic contacts and mediation efforts between the United States and Iran amid heightened regional tensions.
Reuters had earlier reported, citing a Pakistani official and Iranian media, that Munir was scheduled to travel to Tehran.
According to Reuters, Munir had also engaged with Iranian leadership earlier in the summer in efforts to prevent a further escalation of tensions, facilitate the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz and support an early resolution to the ongoing conflict.
Munir’s visit is seen as part of Pakistan’s broader diplomatic engagement with regional stakeholders, with discussions in Tehran expected to explore ways to strengthen bilateral ties, advance diplomatic initiatives and promote regional stability.
