LAHORE MIRROR — Director General of the Election Commission of Pakistan, Shamshad Akhtar, was killed after unidentified gunmen opened fire on him in Tank on Saturday, according to the Election Commission’s spokesperson.
The spokesperson said Shamshad Akhtar had no personal enmity with anyone, adding that the incident appeared to be a case of targeted killing.
Describing the deceased officer as honest, decent and dedicated to his duties, the spokesperson said his death was a great loss.
Chief Election Commissioner, the Election Commission’s secretary and all staff members expressed deep sorrow and grief over Shamshad Akhtar’s martyrdom.
The Election Commission’s spokesperson also called for effective measures to protect government employees from terrorist attacks, stressing the need to ensure their safety while performing official duties.
