LAHORE MIRROR — Siti Hasmah Binti Mohamad Ali, the wife of Malaysia’s longest-serving prime minister, Mahathir Mohamad, died on Monday at the age of 100, Mahathir’s office confirmed.
The wife of Mahathir Mohamad died at the National Heart Institute in Kuala Lumpur, according to Malaysia’s state news agency Bernama, citing her son and businessman Mokhzani Mahathir. Further details about her death were not immediately available.
A trained doctor and prominent public health advocate, Siti Hasmah was among the early Malay women to enter the medical profession. She was actively involved in public health and social welfare initiatives, including maternal health, family planning, literacy and drug-abuse prevention.

She met Mahathir while they were studying medicine in Singapore in the late 1940s. The couple married in August 1956 and recently marked their 70th wedding anniversary. They had seven children, including Mokhzani, social activist Marina Mahathir and politician Mukhriz Mahathir.
Mahathir, 101, served as prime minister from 1981 to 2003 and again from 2018 to 2020. His second tenure ended after a political crisis in 2020.
A funeral for Siti Hasmah was scheduled for Monday, with her burial to take place at a Muslim cemetery in Putrajaya, according to Mahathir’s office.
