LAHORE MIRROR — The government has announced the procedure for availing a Rs100-per-litre subsidy on petrol under its relief scheme for owners of two- and three-wheelers and cars with engines up to 800cc.
Speaking at a press conference in Islamabad alongside Federal Ministers Atta Tarar and Ali Pervaiz Malik, IT Minister Shaza Fatima said the scheme would provide relief to eligible vehicle owners on specified quantities of petrol.
She said owners of two- and three-wheelers would receive the subsidy on up to 20 litres of petrol, while those with vehicles of up to 800cc would be eligible for relief on up to 30 litres.
Shaza said the programme had been divided into two stages, with the first requiring eligible consumers to register themselves.
For registration, users must send an SMS from the mobile number registered against their Computerised National Identity Card (CNIC), containing “REG”, their CNIC number, the first letter of their province and the vehicle or motorcycle registration date to 9771.

After completing registration, consumers will have to send “TOK” to 9771 when purchasing petrol. They will then receive a token, which must be shown at the petrol station to avail the subsidy.
The minister advised citizens not to share their CNIC numbers or other personal information with anyone, stressing that the government would neither seek additional data from citizens nor charge any fee for the scheme.
She said any errors encountered during the process would be reviewed and rectified as the programme progressed.
Under the government’s schedule, residents of Islamabad will be able to avail the petrol relief from midnight between September 14 and 15, while citizens across the country, including Azad Jammu and Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan, will be eligible from midnight between September 16 and 17.
