LAHORE MIRROR — The University College of Medicine and Dentistry (UCMD), a constituent medical institution of the University of Lahore, has won two international AMEE Aspire Awards for excellence in medical education.
UCMD secured the awards in the Student Engagement and Faculty Development categories under the Association for Medical Education in Europe (AMEE) at an international conference held in Vienna, Austria.
The University of Lahore held a ceremony to celebrate the achievement, attended by Deputy Chairman Board of Governors Uzair Rauf, Rector Professor Dr Muhammad Ashraf, UCMD Principal Professor Dr Mahwish Urooj, Dean of Medicine and Dentistry Professor Dr Mughis Ahmad Baig, faculty members, and senior officials.
Addressing the ceremony, Rector Professor Dr Muhammad Ashraf congratulated UCMD’s faculty and administration, saying the international recognition reflected the university’s growing academic influence globally.
He said continued investment in professional faculty development, modern teaching methods, and the holistic development of students, alongside efforts to maintain high standards in higher education, made the achievement possible.
Deputy Chairman Board of Governors Uzair Rauf described UCMD’s two international awards as a matter of pride for the University of Lahore and Pakistan. He said the awards reflected the quality of work being undertaken at UCMD and highlighted the institution’s success in building a committed team focused on excellence in education and teaching.
UCMD Principal Professor Dr Mahwish Urooj said the achievement was the result of a decade of sustained efforts by the entire department. She added that the University of Lahore was the only university in Pakistan to receive the AMEE Student Engagement Award.
At the conclusion of the ceremony, the rector and deputy chairman presented the awards to the UCMD principal and faculty members and reaffirmed the university administration’s commitment to advancing medical education in line with international standards.
