SHARJAH: The Sharjah government has raised minimum income and social support levels for citizens, with university graduates working in the government sector now receiving a minimum net salary of Dhs27,125, or about PKR 2.05 million per month.
Sheikh Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Ruler of Sharjah, approved the measures, which took effect on September 1, 2026.
The new package sets the minimum standard of living for families receiving social assistance at Dhs20,000 per month.
The initiative will benefit around 6,652 families. The Sharjah government has allocated an estimated Dhs195.13 million annually for the programme.
At an exchange rate of about PKR 75.58 per UAE dirham, Dhs20,000 equals nearly PKR 1.51 million per month. Currency fluctuations may affect the exact amount in Pakistani rupees.
Higher Support for Retirees
The new measures also provide a Dhs20,000 minimum standard of living for government retirees in Sharjah.
Around 2,251 retirees will benefit from the decision. The government expects the measure to cost about Dhs113.056 million annually.
The package also includes around 5,300 citizens who worked outside the Sharjah government but receive supplementary grants. The annual cost of this support stands at an estimated Dhs159 million.
The reforms aim to strengthen financial security and raise the minimum standard of living for citizens across the emirate.
Government Employees to Receive at Least Dhs20,000
The Sharjah government has also set a Dhs20,000 minimum salary for its employees.
Around 17,776 government employees will benefit from the revised salary structure. The measure will cost the government more than Dhs720 million annually.
The new minimum salary equals approximately PKR 1.51 million per month, or around PKR 18.1 million a year, based on the cited exchange rate.
University Graduates Get Dhs27,125 Minimum
Government employees with university degrees will receive the highest minimum salary under the new structure.
The government has set their minimum net monthly salary at Dhs27,125, which equals about PKR 2.05 million per month or nearly PKR 24.6 million annually.
Employees with a high school certificate will receive a minimum net salary of Dhs20,950, up from Dhs17,500 after deductions.
The revised salary equals approximately PKR 1.58 million per month.
The measures expand Sharjah’s social welfare and public-sector salary system. They combine higher government salaries with increased support for families and retirees.
The reforms are expected to boost household incomes and improve the financial security of thousands of Emirati citizens across Sharjah.
