Lahore- A strong reaction has emerged from Maryam Nawaz to the court’s suspension of the Punjab Property Ownership Ordinance, in which she said that this decision will benefit the land-grabber mafia.
Reacting to the suspension of the Punjab Protection of Ownership of Immovable Property Act, 2025, Chief Minister of Punjab Maryam Nawaz Sharif said in her statement that, for the first time, the government had set a limit to decide land and property cases—cases that had been going on for years and generations—within 90 days.
She said that the government made this law to help millions of Punjab’s people who had been oppressed for years and decades. The public’s elected provincial assembly enacted this law so that people could be freed from the clutches of powerful land mafias. Through this law, the public, for the first time, gained the power to protect their lawful land and property, for which an evidence-based law was prepared.
Maryam Nawaz further said in her statement that the judicial decision is not in accordance with the well-established principles laid down by the superior judiciary. The suspension of this law will benefit the land-grabber mafia, and the public will view it as patronage of the land-grabber mafia, whereas this law provides protection to the oppressed public and comprehensively includes all administrative and legal aspects.
She said that stay orders in land cases continue for decades. This law was not for the benefit of Maryam Nawaz, nor has its suspension caused any harm to her personally; however, the oppressed public suffering at the hands of the land and grabber mafia has suffered a major loss. Legislating is the constitutional right of the provincial assembly, which cannot be obstructed.
The Chief Minister of Punjab said that stopping this law will not harm Maryam Nawaz Sharif personally, but will harm the poor, the destitute, the helpless, widows, and the oppressed whose grievances were being addressed. With justice not being delivered, the hope that binds the poor and the oppressed will be shattered.
