The Islamabad High Court has declared Tariq Jahangiri disqualified for the office of judge in the degree controversy case.
A bench comprising Chief Justice Sarfraz Dogar and Justice Azam Khan of the Islamabad High Court heard the case, during which the Registrar of Karachi University also appeared before the court; however, Tariq Jahangiri did not appear in court.
During the hearing, the Registrar of Karachi University presented the original record related to the degree.
Barrister Salahuddin, counsel for Tariq Jahangiri, stated that the court has three applications filed by Tariq Jahangiri and should hear them first.
Mian Daud Advocate stated that he also swears that even Tariq Jahangiri’s enrollment forms were bogus, and if he is truthful, he should produce the mark sheets of LLB Part-1 and Part-2.
During the hearing, the Registrar of Karachi University informed the court that the university has finally cancelled Tariq Jahangiri’s degree. The Principal of Islamia Law College stated that Tariq Mahmood Jahangiri was not their student; Tariq Jahangiri was caught cheating; the unfair means committee imposed a three-year ban; the committee imposed a three-year ban on Tariq Jahangiri for cheating and threatening the examiner; Tariq Jahangiri became eligible to appear in the examination again in 1992; against the ban, Tariq Mahmood used a fake enrollment form to obtain a degree.
The Registrar of Karachi University further informed the court that after verification by the relevant authorities, the University Syndicate issued a declaration canceling Tariq Jahangiri’s degree based on the findings.
In response to a question by the Chief Justice, the Registrar clarified that Karachi University has finally cancelled the degree.
When the Registrar of Karachi University was speaking, Akram Sheikh intervened and said that the record could not be examined without deciding his applications.
After completion of arguments, the court reserved its decision, which was announced shortly thereafter, declaring Tariq Jahangiri disqualified for the office of judge.
