Rawalpindi- Former DG ISI Lieutenant General (R) Faiz Hameed has been sentenced to 14 years of rigorous imprisonment.
According to Pakistan Army’s media wing (ISPR), the field general court martial has sentenced Faiz Hameed to 14 years of rigorous imprisonment.
ISPR says that a field general court martial under the Pakistan Army Act was initiated against former Lieutenant General Faiz Hameed, and this process continued for 15 months.
According to ISPR, proceedings were conducted against the accused on 4 charges, which included involvement in political activities, violation of the Official Secrets Act in a manner detrimental to the security and interests of the state, misuse of authority and government resources, and causing unlawful harm to certain individuals.
ISPR says that after a long and comprehensive legal process, the accused was found guilty of all charges. The punishment awarded by the court will take effect from 11 December 2025.

ISPR stated that the field general court martial fulfilled all legal requirements, and the accused was provided all legal rights including the selection of a team of lawyers for his defence.
According to ISPR, the convict has the right to appeal before the relevant forum.
ISPR says that the matter of the convict’s political incitement and creating instability is being dealt with separately.
It should be noted that Lieutenant General (R) Faiz Hameed has served as DG ISI and also as Corps Commander Peshawar.
When did Faiz Hameed come into the spotlight?
Faiz Hameed’s name came to public attention in relation to the Faizabad sit-in when it emerged that he had helped broker an agreement between the government and the banned Tehreek-e-Labbaik Pakistan (TLP).
At the end of the agreement signed on 27 November 2017 between the Government of Pakistan and the banned TLP, the words “Through Major General Faiz Hameed” were written.
After the 2018 elections, the PTI government appointed Faiz Hameed as DG ISI in 2019, and he served in this position for more than two years.

Later, regarding the agreement with the banned TLP, the Supreme Court ordered strict action against the officers involved. Faiz Hameed was accused of interfering in political matters and violating his oath. During the same period, allegations also surfaced regarding political vendettas, arrests, and engineering of political loyalties.
Former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif also levelled serious allegations against Faiz Hameed in his speeches. Allegations of political interference during the tenure of Lieutenant General (R) Faiz Hameed also surfaced.
Former Islamabad High Court judge Shaukat Aziz Siddiqui also accused Faiz Hameed of interference.
Three weeks after the Taliban’s arrival in Kabul, Faiz Hameed’s photograph holding a cup of coffee during his Kabul visit drew severe criticism.
During the PTI government, Faiz Hameed was accused of jailing PTI’s political opponents, ensuring the attendance of members in assembly sessions for legislative purposes, and being involved in the passage of the budget.
In 2017 and 2018, former Islamabad High Court judge Shaukat Aziz Siddiqui also accused Faiz Hameed of interference.
When was Faiz Hameed taken into military custody?
Lieutenant General (R) Faiz Hameed was taken into military custody on 12 August 2024, and field general court martial proceedings under the Pakistan Army Act were initiated against him.
The proceedings against Faiz Hameed began following complaints in the NJI Housing Society case, as per the directions of the Supreme Court. In light of the Supreme Court’s orders, a detailed court of inquiry was conducted against him.
On 29 November 2022, Lieutenant General Faiz Hameed took early retirement.
When was Faiz Hameed charge-sheeted?
On 10 December last year, Faiz Hameed was formally charge-sheeted under the field general court martial.
The charges included involvement in political activities, violating the Official Secrets Act in a manner harmful to state security and interests, misuse of authority and government resources, and causing unlawful harm to individuals.
ISPR had stated that multiple incidents of violence and unrest, including those connected to the 9 May events, were also under investigation against Faiz Hameed, and that in many of these violent incidents, the involvement and collusion of malicious political actors were also under inquiry.
